Katherine! I need your help please. I'm doing a trip to the States at the end of the year - what are the must see things in NYC and LA????
New York City: I haven’t really done anything touristy (Empire State, etc) but I’m sure you can find a list of those things elsewhere anyway. I recommend: The Meatball Shop, The Standard Hotel (including the bars and restaurants - just go to all of them), the APC store, the Acne store, Opening Ceremony, The Cake Shop, talk to a stranger on the street (use the ‘I’m from NZ card’ as an icebreaker), Max Fish, Uniqlo, Supreme on a Thursday morning - just to see the line outside, Lucky Strike, the Brooklyn Flea market, the Chelsea Markets, walk the highline, The Box, get a breakfast bagel from your local Deli, research in advance to see if any bands you like are playing and organise tickets, MoMA, The Tippler, The New Museum, go to Tranny Bingo on a Monday night at Hotel Chantelle, the rooftop bar at Hotel Chantelle, La Esquina, Café Habana, Café Gitane and get avocado on toast and aioli on foccacia, The Smile, Ruby’s (get a burger), Pho Grand (get salt and pepper spicy squid), Shake Shack (don’t get the mushroom burger, do get fries - don’t get cheese fries), The Jane, The Mulberry Project (go to the courtyard out back, get a jug of cocktail using flavours of your choice), Dim Sum Go Go for day and night yum cha, Happy Bones (7 Bond St, out the back) for good coffee, the Wyeth hotel - go up and onto the bar deck, Saturdays, the Alexander Wang store, Wholefoods just because god damn that place is good and you will always find something you want to eat, Rag & Bone, any Apple store, Muji, get something delivered (menupages.com is your friend) for the experience, try the Hummus at Hummus Place, Steven Alan, Nepenthes, Self Edge, C’H’C’M, the Isabel Marant store, get a lobster roll because we don’t do that here in NZ, get your laundry washed and folded just before you leave and pack it straight into your luggage to save doing it yourself, go to Barney’s, get the Subway, get a $1 slice of Pizza on St Marks at 2am, Jack’s wife Freda (get a lemonade). There are so many places and things to do you’ll never be at a loss.
LA: I haven’t spent much time there recently. All I can say is Disneyland and In ‘n’ Out Burger. Ask Sarah, she just came back from there.
It’s getting hot, crack a window, air it out.
